Relaxing in the room here at MTAC for a moment. So far it’s been pretty good. My only complaint about the con itself was finding out “no weapons allowed” just as we got to the door of the dealer’s room – after standing in line for 30 minutes to get there. They said I could check my sword (my fragile Utena sword — I don’t trust anyone to handle it but me or Chase.), so I went and sat by the exit while Chase and Kevin went in the dealer’s hall. š
Only other nitpicks about the weekend – the weather has been fairly nasty. Later today it got a little better, but we drove the 3 hours in solid rain from Memphis to Nashville last night. It was cold, and this morning it was cold and the wind was whipping! I ventured outside in my Belle dress and could hardly walk, the wind was blowing my skirt around so much. Like I said, it got better in the afternoon, but it’s still much colder here right now than it usually is this time of year.
And Kevin lost his Link hat. While he and Chase were in the dealer’s room. Chase said he looked at Kevin one second and he had it on, the next, it was completely gone. They hadn’t moved from the spot, and it wasn’t on the floor or anywhere. Chase suspects someone saw it fall and snatched it up… I hope whoever got it turned it in to Lost and Found – we keeping checking – but I wouldn’t put it past some of the people here to pick it up and keep it. It was disappointing, because now he can’t wear his Link costume until we make him a new hat, and I had really wanted to do a photoshoot of him with his new sword and shield next week. I may ask my mum to see if she can slap one together for him this week (since I won’t be home to use the machine).
But enough with the whining; here’s the good stuff!
I wore the new Belle this morning, I’m very happy with it except for the waist section, which I think just needs to be taken up. I also need to take down the waistbands, they keep flipping up.
We got our badges really quick this year, yay! Though I haven’t even used mine for anything, since I didn’t go in the dealer’s room. Haha.
We came back up to the room, took a nap LOL, then Chase went out and got us all lunch. He finished painting my shoulder pieces right here in the room LOL (I will have to tell the saga of the shoulder pieces after the con. Basically, they were a disaster.) But I got all my Utena stuff done, and wore that for a while.
Like I said, the shoulder pieces were not what they were supposed to be- those will be replaced, and the tassles shortened. I want to replace my buttons, and I need to do some more handsewing on the edges. Looking at pics of my 2001 version, I actually like my skirt/jacket ruffle better in the first version, so I think I’ll remake the skirt to be like the previous one.
Also; the sword ended up being made in basically, two days. On the whole I’m happy with it, but Chase is going to remake parts of it. I told him to go with yellow, but I think I want the next version to be a more “realistic” version – not bright yellow, but gold. I may make the yellow pieces on my costume more gold, too.
Well, Chase decided he wanted to put Vader on, because the whole gang was downstairs – Chewie, Han, Padme, a stormtrooper and two mandos. I decided to put on Leia, even though I hadn’t planned to wear it today, and we stuck Kevin in Luke, since his Link hat was gone. That ended up being awesome! We had more pictures and more fun wearing all our Star Wars costumes than anything else that day.
After that, we came up to the room and ordered dinner, and I painted myself orange and put on Starfire. That was awesome, I can’t wait to download all the Teen Titans pics off my camera.
We just got some ice cream, and now we’re in the room just taking it easy for a few minutes. I washed the orange off, and I’m about to put Wonder Woman on and venture downstairs…
